Well...the problem has been brought out in a splendid manner but what about the root cause of the same. Why the Indian mindset is glued to conventional secure educational options without giving a chance of choice? Is it a typical middle class syndrome which has struggled to secure a stable economic position? The long drawn era of foreign subjugation certainly broke down the innate independent intellectual fervor of the Indian mind. The glitter and glamor of Colonial era mesmerised one and all to become a sarkari babu. A professional degree in engineering, medicine or law ensures a secure & reputed career. More so, the hangover of the colonial system of education still continues which aimed at producing brown sahibs for the gora malik. Even today, what's Indian industry largely doing. At least the bulk of software industry in indulged in software cooliegiri for the western masters. There is a tremendous lack of original thinking which lets a person purse his own swadharma, one's own inner voice - which was quite vocal in the years of the yore. A rediscovery of the Indian genius is what is warranted today and is the only way through which this ancient land can restore her innate greatness.

Hi Sangeeta, I would have to agree that it's not their job to change the perception. We as a society need to be non-judgmental and treat people as individuals and not part of some sort of herd.

Goa used to be a sand-colored, bustling town of my childhood. Was there for three years courtesy my banker father. Cashew nuts, candles, churches, Christmas and Santa Claus punctuate my memories along with open landscapes uncluttered with cement constructions. Houses, row upon row of houses, were the staple landmarks of Margao. Now, I only hear about commercialization at an unimaginable level. Nostalgia is best served in the mind.

Hey Merril,

Indu gave me your number. She said you were looking for someone who could write for Careers360. She forgot to mention that you mag operates out of Dilli.

Sigh, I won't be able to come there for work - I am married and in Hyderabad - but if you have stuff that I could do from home, from this city, or any short term stints - it would be cool.

Cheers,

Nilo

This was an interesting piece of new, though i earnestly feel that it is not the responsibility of the Muslim community alone to change the larger perceptions . We all ( majoritarians in mubers ie Hindus) have an equal role to play in dispelling such myths .
