Amit Sana, the runner-up at the Indion Idol contest, was in the office today.
Starstruck individuals hailing from across the office echelons from the senior management to the kitchen staff were starstruck and clamouring to get autographs, pose for pictures etc.
Anything to get close to a celebrity. ![]()
The idol has a slight build, an air of humility about him and is very pleasant to interact with.
We got him to sing a song too, speakers and all. A melliflous voice no doubt, I was hoping he would scat, but unfortunately he didn’t.
Twas’ rather amusing experience.

Actually, Indian Idol is based on the reaity show American Idol…the channel which hosts the show in fact bought the rights for it!
Wasn’t the gong show meant to make fun of people? Saw it on ” Confessions of A Dangerous Mind” if I’m not mistaken?
While the concept itself has been successful in drawing viewers to the channel, in most cases, the winner fades away in a few months. What happened to Viva? Is it over exposure that preceeds the actual launch of the singer?
Will Amit Sana go down the same road? He should of course glow in the limelgith while it lasts.
Well, that’s a problem with any “manufactured” group. Will they be able to carry the burden of their success post the support of their patrons?
With individual idols, I guess it depends pretty much on their own mettle post the competition.
They must have the right attitude and of course be ready to not rest on their iconic glory.
Let’s wait ‘n’ watch!
Hmm…in Indian Idol, the judges initially went the same way….making derogatory comments and all that…but they received tonnes of audience criticism for such an uncalled for condescending attitude…so, the judges had to change their approach and became constructive in their criticism.
