Job Switch
Have quit my job and here’s the mail I zipped across to all my colleagues…also got some interesting feedback from people:
” Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I have put in my resignation at BC Web Wise because the winds of change are beckoning desperately. It was a SUPER experience working here and my interaction with everyone of you has been enriching in every way work-wise and even on a personal level. Twas’ was the best 2 years and 3 months of my working life and I ‘evolved’ a lot, learnt so much as well as had the honour of meeting all you lovely bunch of talented, funny and of course crazy ( in a positive kinda way) people. In short, I had a kickass time!
* Enjoyed making Usman over, replenishing his supply of mousse every month, going to Mohammed Ali Rd and gorging on the best delicacies ever!
* Cat-fighting with JK as well as strategizing for Tips4me, Peerless etc. From foes to friends, we have come a long way!
* discussing tipletters & other stuff with little JB who has such a lovely fashion sense as well as potential to be a super writer.
* my long winding conversations with Aditi about life and it’s complexities as well our intellectual chemistry while working on pitches. That Bangalore trip will be etched in my memory forever.
* Listening to Selwyn, the hippie-in-the-making trying to sound all husky! c’mon work that voice!
* worrying Asha for my salary from the 15th of every month onwards. Thanks for being there during my poverty-stricken phases! Also guys, she’s a storehouse of info on Indian cinema!
* getting compliments from Joy, as well as hearing some of the wittiest and most spontaneous wisecracks ever. Inside that man, lies a creative genius..!
* kinky talk with Raunaq as well as discussing plans for making a a magnum opus of a film together. I’m still game!
* food conspiracies with Jaya!
* being (pseudo!) gym buddies with Nash. Enjoyed the suckling and all the other crazy stuff!
* Deepak, I enjoyed working with you thoroughly, you are one smarty as well as funny( read humorous), so keep that copy rolling, wokay?!!
* Rina, please wear pink, you look so utterly ravishing in it…also thank you for the opportunity to meet your uncle. He has the healing touch indeed!
* Talking in Konkani with Monica Moga and eating her awesome sorpatel!
* Rakesh… you were REALLY, REALLY patient with tip letters… in fact I can hear you saying ‘Check the tipletters’ already!
* travelling to Bandra with Dipti and irritating her incessantly with editorial eccentricities over ruchi soya, madison etc
*
conceptualizing cartoons with Chagas, hey man always beleive in yourself…you’re the best!
* teasing Milind. Good luck with your attempt to give up ciggies…hope you win the bet!
* Mangesh, I don’t know you so well but you have super taste in shirts!
* Arun, he scuttles around running errands for us, but I am sure he is capable of doing alot more…so unleash that creative talent!
Guys, I wish all of you the very best and I hope you will be in touch with me, even after I have left. As they say out of sight is not necessarily out of mind. What say??????
lots of love & lots more madness,
MELI( or is it Maili Joy?)”
Got some interesting replies!
Jyothika: I will always remember the cat fights we have always had. Should tell you that in two years I have seen a totally evolved, matured and a changed ‘Merril’. I would definitely be in touch with you. Whenever in life you feel that there is no one around you (which should never happen) but we are human beings and at times we do feel sad/depressed, just turn around for support and I will be there. You can do that right now. Turn around and you will see your friend Jyothika just there to support you in the best possible way. Be happy and spread happiness wherever you go. Keep smiling as it is a curved line that will put this world straight!!!
Deepak: Boss, I shud say ur letter’s one of the best copy i’ve ever read… touched me a lot… nywez before u go… i shud say ur the most wonderful boss i’ve ever had till now… so i guess i’m gonna miss that sing song… “yoohoo deepak look i’ve got work for you!” anyways all the best for whats to come… i’m sure ur gonna do a creative redesign for the world with all that talent in you
Selwyn: So when will you be joining back?
Usman: Hey murial, Whats the matter why r u leaving first of all? Ok if its for the best u should. AND uhhhhh…….. my name stands first in the list, am happy to see that. Will be missing u a lot lot lot… And now whos gona buy me moose( mousse, this designer can’t spell to save his life!) , new clothes line ( have given him a dynamic makeover!) ……… i’m depressed. Wi’ll keep on calling u……. Usi
Have now etched these replies in my memory for keeps…
Am I sad…yes and no…
I experience a tinge of meloncholy, at the same time a tingling of excitment.
It’s the start of a new beggining.
This time, a new year, a new lease of life..literally

Hey Merril… heard about the job switch a few days back. Well…. I AM EXCITED. I am sure that you do well wherever you go. I don’t want to go on once again about what I think of your talents and abilities. Do well…. accellerate now.
Take care.

Hey Muriel
a lovely heartfelt post.. keep evolving
You always make a difference in what you do or who you meet.
And your colleagues’ feedback best exemplifies it.
And we aren’t ignorant of the magic you do on all of us?
